IBC sees ACCESS Launch NetFront™ Living Connect 3.1 with Support for New DLNA® VidiPath™ Guidelines

Oberhausen, Germany, September 11th, 2014 − ACCESS CO., LTD (IBC stand 14.D14), a global provider of advanced software technologies to the mobile, beyond-PC and digital TV markets, today announced the IBC launch of NetFront™ Living Connect 3.1 with added support for the new DLNA® VidiPath™ technology. The new solution allows operators to satisfy consumer demand for content everywhere and comply with the US FCC mandate for standardized and interoperable media sharing.

The extended NetFront Living Connect media sharing solution allows operators to leverage industry standards such as HTML5 Remote User Interfaces (RUIs), HTTP Adaptive Delivery and Authentication, on top of its already available DTCP-IP-based link layer protection, to stream premium content inside the home. The added support for the DLNA VidiPath technology on the client and server sides enables secure playback across multiple devices such as TVs, tablets, smartphones, Blu-ray players, game consoles and more while also allowing operators to control the user experience across multiple screens.

“We strongly believe that multiscreen solutions need to be interoperable to succeed, which is why we are a member of the DLNA. The launch of the new VidiPath brand and guidelines will enable the industry to take the standards route a step further to ensure that multiscreen services can be deployed on all devices without compromising on security,” said Kunihiro Ishiguro, CTO, ACCESS. “By adding support for the new VidiPath guidelines in our NetFront Living Connect 3.1 media sharing solution, we are demonstrating our commitment to helping the industry launch standardized multiscreen services that enable consumers to stream content seamlessly while ensuring that operator services comply with the content industry’s security requirements.”

NetFront™ Living Connect is a market-leading DLNA Technology Component™ solution that enables the quick and efficient implementation of services that support DLNA standards on consumer electronic devices including mobile phones, digital cameras, printers, DVD players, game consoles, digital TVs, set-top boxes, network attached storage (NAS) boxes and more. NetFront Living Connect has achieved an extensive track record of successful DLNA Certified™ device deployments on a variety of consumer electronic devices offered by leading manufacturers in markets throughout the world. NetFront Living Connect also offers support for DLNA Premium Video Guidelines, enabling the secure sharing of high quality, premium commercial video.

The new VidiPath guidelines, previously known as CVP-2 and announced by the DLNA on 11th September 2014, were developed by the DLNA in conjunction with service providers to improve the digital delivery of movies and network television to the home. In addition to the new brand name, the DLNA is launching the VidiPath Certification program, which draws on expertise from more than a decade of proven interoperability testing that the organization has performed on over 25,000 device models, enabling more than 3 billion devices to share personal content on many types of devices in the home. The VidiPath Certification program adds key DLNA Certification elements designed to test and validate the extended technology requirements for viewing subscription TV content, including Digital Transmission Content Protection over Internet Protocol (DTCP-IP), HTML-5, authentication capabilities, IEEE 1905.1 and UPnP remote diagnostics, network power save and adaptive delivery technology to optimize streaming quality. Additionally, VidiPath Certified products will interoperate and share media with the billions of existing DLNA Certified servers.

DLNA will demonstrate products supporting its VidiPath Guidelines and share details about its Certification and branding programs at IBC, September 12 -16, 2014 in Booth #L22, Connected Everywhere Hall at the Amsterdam RAI Exhibition & Convention Centre.
